Google Earth can display both detailed events and general data clusters. In studies of Earth and its populations, instructors in lecture or discussion may choose to support observations with visuals. The images are intended to present another way of viewing the streets of Montreal from the history of riots on Crescent Street to a performance by students that challenge the collection of images by the Google Earth van.

The images included in Google Earth are images that you’d be able to see by flying over someone’s house, and are in general, publically available.Google Earth is a fascinating web site that let’s you look at different parts of the earth, as seen by satellite. You can download Google Earth for free at earth.google.com and start immediately by looking up places that you might never have seen. Google Earth is 5.7MB to download, which is considerably larger than anything I have on my phone so far. Once extracted and fully installed, it eats up 22MB of precious memory.

And no other software brings a view of the world to your computer like Google Earth with its innovative display of places small and large, remote and populated. A definitely surprising feature for those who are new to Google Earth is the possibility of navigating through space and Mars. You can watch constellations, mars, some galaxies get information about our solar system and some other astronomical information (all very educational).

About a year ago, the Google team announced a new initiative – Your World in 3D – which aimed to recreate the globe with 3D models using Sketchup and Google Earth. A few days ago, they released a motion capture video of the work done on the city of Athens, and it looks stunning! Google Earth blog displayed a good quality 3D building which was the best ever seen. Mulhouse buildings can be considered as examples. It continues to amaze me how much 3D imagery Google continues to add to its 3D building layer in Google Earth. One of the latest global cities to go 3D is Athens in Greece .

Some awesome metadata comes with Google Earth’s moon maps that makes it worth the download, though. There are interactive tours of the moon’s various sights narrated by Apollo astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Jack Schmitt, 360-degree photo-montages of landing sites, clips from televised footage of the various Apollo missions and overlays of the training maps used by the astronauts. The historical imagery can be accessed by downloading Google Earth and then clicking the clock icon in the upper status bar. This will bring up a time-line showing years for which images are available and you can navigate to them by dragging the sliding marker left or right or by clicking the arrows backwards or forwards

Google Earth is an extremely powerful tool of the modern age that is on the cutting edge of human technology. The intended applications for such a tool are numerous. Back in January, when Google launched the Nexus One , it also showcased Google Earth for Android which surprisingly wasn’t part of the Nexus One at all but Google said it will be launched at a later date soon. Now, Google has made it available through its Android Market where it can be downloaded free of charge. You can easily customize your version of Google Earth to display the layers that most interest you.
